Philippines SME Development and Sustainable Employment Promotion - Tourism Sector, GTZ, GFA

    Description
The goal of the Small and Medium Enterprise Development for Sustainable Employment Program (SMEDSEP) is that state and private institutions shape the investment climate in the Philippines, and particularly the Visayas, in a way that enables the development and use of entrepreneurial potential and stimulates competition. Tourism is one of several sectors in which the project works. The documents on the right describe an intervention in the tourism sector to establish a tourism marketing agency.

The creation of a Tourism Marketing Agency(TMA) in Negros Occidental is a product innovation in Business Development Services for the tourism sector. The agency is private-sector owned and managed that will promote the province as a tourism destination. Funds of the agency will be from membership fees, institutional donations from government and private sector, sponsorship / advertisers for events / project and from institutional fund raising.

The set up of Negros Island Tourism Inc. is the result of a series of analyses, interviews and workshops with various stakeholders that aimed to find a jointly agreed way for improving tourism marketing. This transparent process of externally-facilitated discussions between business people and public sector officials has led to a functioning public-private partnership framework which paved the way for setting up a private Tourism Marketing Agency.
